For a number of years, Notts County Council Library services have used Ford Transits to move boxes of books between librarys. Each box weighs up to 20kg, causing considerable strain on the shelving, and soon filling the vehicle to its payload capacity. They had a continuing problem with the shelves collapsing every few weeks, making the vehicle dangerous, and often out of service.
With our new build methods, LightBody Structures Ltd built a lightweighht body with shelves welded directly to the body sides. The result is two very strong, light bodies, with no unnecessary heavy framework for shelves.
This body, complete with aero luton pod, and tail-lift, whilst not the lightest spec possible, still gave a 980kg payload, a 200kg improvement for the end users.
Note that the shelves are welded plastic, with no places to harbour dirt, making them ideal for food and hygiene products, in fact anything where appearamce and ease of clean is needed. In fact we are soon to build a mobile shop as a result of the customer seeing this system.
